There’s nothing more frustrating than being sick. It’s even worse when you’re sick over a prolonged time. I’ve been sick for two months now. Needless to say, I’m pretty much done with being sick.

I used to work at a museum whose primary clientele was children. Generally, there were about one hundred children a day. Working both in admissions and in the store, you interact with virtually all of them. I found that to be a fun part of the day. Some kids were fun to talk to. Once you start getting into the tweens, you start getting into the beginning of teenage behaviors. Usually when I would see tweens it would be in droves as they would be there for a field trip.

When you work with children, you have a very high risk of getting sick. That’s just a fact of the job description.

I had gotten a flu shot and though that I would be clear for this year. I went through all of last winter without getting so much as a cold. It was the best winter ever for my health.

Then come the end of March/beginning of April. I came down with a pretty bad cold. I had a high fever for 3 days, give or take. While I had the cold, I lost my voice. I had no voice for about a month and a half. That was hard, not being able to communicate for a month and a half.

While I had lost my voice, I was fired from working at the museum. Now, personally, I believe that people who are sick shouldn’t be fired. It’s something that’s beyond their control. And given that it’s an establishment that caters to children, there should be a lot more forgiving when someone is sick. So, there I was, without a job and no voice. Within about one week of losing my voice, I got my voice back.

I know, perfect, right?

Shortly after I got my voice back I came down with an awful cough. It was chesty and rough on the throat.

And here I am, 3 weeks later. Finally we figured out what the problem was. I have bronchitis. At this point, I’m pretty much done with being sick. Of course, that’s not really a surprise. I’m hoping that some day soon I can get a good night’s sleep without coughing.

Can I get that? Is that asking too much?
