He stood out on the balcony. The brisk evening air gently caresses his skin with ice-cold fingers. Why was he standing here? What was happening? He didn’t know if he could quite comprehend what was flashing through his mind as he stood there.

A tear runs down his cheek.

This is everything that he wanted. Or is it? He never thought he would be in this time and this place. Everything that’s happened in the past three days creating a cacophony in his head.

Another tear runs down his face.

“Shit,” he thinks, “What… How?”

He sobs a little as the cold evening’s air continues to caress him.

He closes his eyes and takes in a lungful of the cold air. It’s almost sobering. He hears the door close behind him followed by footsteps.

Arms wrap around his body. The arms are warm and radiating a feeling that he had thought had died so many years ago. They radiated pure, unadulterated love.

He sinks into those arms, resting against that chest. Almost instinctively, he snuggles up to the person behind him.

Why this? Why now? Where do I go from this?

Thoughts swirling through his head as he heard things he never expected to hear.

He feels his chin rest on top of his head.

“So, where do we go from here?”, he says.

“Where do we go? I…”, he starts.

He reaches for a thought, but isn’t quite capable to find the correct words to connect to what he’s feeling.

“Why? Why did you leave…”

“I left because it never felt right. It wasn’t being with you.”, he said, kissing him on the head.

A slight grin breaks across his face as his brain races to connect words. He’s racing to figure out what to say.

“I’ve never wanted anything more than this moment….”, he says with a deep breath, “I still want this… but…”

“But you’re seeing someone else as well.”, he says.

He nods, tears still streaming down his face.

“I know. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to force you to leave…”, he starts.

“I don’t want to either… but I want you as well. Is there any way for this to work out?”

A moment passes with nothing but the symphony below them.

“I… I don’t know. Maybe talk with him?”, he asks only slightly hopeful.

“I don’t want to cheat anymore… not on either of you. You both mean so much to me…”

“I know. And you mean everything to me. I’m not going to force you to decide. Talk with him and see what he’ll say. He’s not from here. He doesn’t share our cultural beliefs.”, he says sounding a bit more hopeful.

He nods, his head tucked underneath his chin. He’s never felt so safe and frightened at the same time in his life.
